So here’s a feel-good story for the day.
Asbury Park Police Officer Connie Breech shared a photo of this young seal found near 1 pm Tuesday along Eighth Avenue beach.
“Look at this cute little guy stuck on the Eighth Avenue Beach waiting for High Tide,” she said.
Breech said the call came from two dog owners, who wanted to ensure the seal was not injured.
A local Marine Life Rescue Center volunteer responded to the scene, Breech said.
“He’s just a little guy, probably only about three or four months old,” Breech said. “It did not appear injured.”
Breech said while it’s not unusual for seals to sunbathe along the water’s edge, every precaution was taken since dog owners often let their four-legged friends off leash on the community’s popular dog beach.
“I think he heard how popular Asbury Park is and wanted to make his way to Yappy Hour at the Wonder Bar,” Breech said in jest.
The local volunteer remained on scene to ensure the seal returned to sea safely.
