Second round of campaign finance reports filed
All individual, campaign filing information is up to date
Candidates running on the Asbury Together ticket have filed their second round of campaign finance reports with the state Election Law Enforcement Commission [ELEC].
For campaigns raising more than $12,300, all contributions of $300 or more must be reported to ELEC. Those campaigns must also provide details on their expenditures, the total amount of money raised and the total amount they have spent.
Second round reports were due on Oct. 24 for the period of Oct. 4 through Oct. 21. From Oct. 22 through election day, contributions of more than $1,400 must be reported to ELEC within 48 hours of their receipt.
As of Friday afternoon, no municipal or board of election candidates or joint candidates’ committees registered in Asbury Park have submitted any 48-hour notices.
Incumbent Mayor Myra Campbell, who seeks re-election as the city’s mayor, filed a form stating she would not raise or spend more than $4,500, which eliminates the requirement to file a detailed report by the Oct. 6 deadline.
Mayoral candidate Harold Suggs is not listed as filing any reports, including the initial form required after contributions are received or expenditures made.
The A-Team for Council slate — with Duanne “King” Small, Rosetta Johnson, Derrick Grant and Kenneth Saunders, Jr. — declared previously they will not raise more than $12,300. This means they need only report the contributions totaling more than $300 and any cash contributions, but do not need to submit a detailed report.
Remond Palmer, the A-Team’s candidate for mayor, filed as an individual candidate. He also declared previously he will not raise or spend more than $4,500, which eliminates the requirement to file a detailed report.
The A-Team for Board of Education candidates — incumbent Felicia Simmons, Arva M. Council and Stephen “Steve” Williams — are not raising or spending above the minimum threshold, according to Council, who is listed as the joint committee’s campaign chair. As per the guidelines for board of education elections, they are are not required to submit any further paperwork if they have not received any cash contributions or any single contributions above $300, an ELEC official confirmed Friday.
Candidates on the Moving Forward ticket who seek a spot on the Asbury Park Board of Education are incumbent Angela Ahbez-Anderson, Carol Jones and Charles Smentkowski, Sr., filed a sworn statement saying their total aggregate expenditures will not exceed the $12,300 threshold, which means they do not have to file a detailed expenditures report.
Contributions of $300 or more and their sources, as well as other campaign finance information, are listed below for Asbury Together ticket, who is still required to submit detailed disclosures.
The incumbent-led ticket received $12,124 in contributions for the reporting period and $26,948.24 to date. The ticket — with incumbents John Moor and Amy Quinn, and Joe Woerner, Jesse “Coach K” Kendle and Barbara “Yvonne” Clayton — reported expenditures of $4,531.56 for the reporting period and a total of $9,271.17 to date.
Contributors over $300 included Paul J. Vail, II of Asbury Park with a donation of $500; Scott Asalone of Asbury Park with a donation of $500; Paul Kokkinis of Rockaway Beach, N.Y., with a donation of $1000; Michael Kearney of New York, N.Y., with a donation of $1000; and John Ogrodnick of Ocean with a donation of $1000.
Information identifying the employer of Kearney is listed on the report as being requested. Campaign manager Meredith DeMarco said Kearney is a restaurant owner in N.Y. She is currently seeking further information and will submit an amendment to the report, she said.
Campaign candidate Joe Woerner loaned the campaign $2000.
For this reporting period, Asbury Together made an expenditure of $374.58 to Ohio-based company “The Print Wave” for printing services, an expenditure of $977.98 to McLain Studios of Asbury Park for printing lawn signs, and reimbursed Quinn for $75 worth of office supplies.
The campaign has two outstanding loan obligations totaling $3000, one for $1000 to Moor and the other for $2000 to Woerner.
A balance of $19,227.07 is reported in the account as of the close of the reporting period.
Final campaign finance reports are due Nov. 24. They cover the reporting period of Oct. 21 through Nov. 21.
The election is Nov. 4. Six candidates seek to fill three open full term positions on the Asbury Park Board of Education. Due to a change of government referendum that passed last November, all five seats on the council are up. Eight candidates seek to fill four council positions. Four candidates seek to be mayor. It will be the first time in the city voters in Asbury Park directly elect their mayor.
