Shadow Art, Dessert, and Political Dialogue
Elex Night Discourse & Discussion at the Asbury Park Yacht Club
Local artist Molly Gaston Johnson will host Discourse and Dessert, an election night gathering 8 pm. Tuesday at the Asbury Park Yacht Club.
“My own artwork is continuously inspired by patterns of life, growth, and behavior, specifically how human behavior is governed by the same basic instincts found in all living things,” Johnson [at right] writes on her web page.
Johnson is the owner of Social Animal Press, an Ocean Grove based printmaking studio. She was the recipient of an Ohio State University fellowship and a New Jersey Governor’s Award for Distinguished Teaching Artist in 2012.
She currently is developing an Art and Literacy initiative in a partnership between the Newark Museum and the Newark Public School system.
Johnson, whose shadow art exhibit is inspired by the current political climate, will explain its evolution, creation and inspiration before opening the floor for election night discussion. Patrons can either voice or write down their ideas and comments, according to a news release.
The event is the first in a series planned in conjunction with Marilyn Schlossbach, proprietor of the Asbury Park Yacht Club, Pop’s Garage, Langosta Lounge, and Lightly Salted, all located along the Asbury Park Boardwalk.
