Jitney connects train stations to beach
Weekend shuttle service to reduce traffic, free up parking
Running through September 3, two jitney bus routes will take visitors from the train station to the beach for $1 a ride.
Shore EZ Ride shuttles run from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Times are coordinated with the arrival of NJ Transit trains at stations in Long Branch, Asbury Park, and Bradley Beach.
“Summer beachgoers are familiar with the traffic that clogs the roads leading to the shore, the traffic congestion within the towns and the shortage of parking.” says the EZ ride website. “The Shore EZride Jitney service helps reduce traffic, ease parking and improve air quality.”
Shuttles stop in each town’s downtown and business districts. Return route times will get travellers back to the train station in time for their trip home.
The Asbury Park and Bradley Beach route also includes stops in Ocean Grove.
The cost of riding is kept low through cooperation between NJ Transit and the towns served by the EZ Ride shuttle buses: NJ Transit provides 75% of the funding, and Asbury Park, Bradley Beach, and Long Branch pay for the remaining 25%.
