Silverball reopens after Sandy cleanup
Pinball museum full of vintage machines has been located on boardwalk since spring 2010
Silverball Pinball Museum is reopening this afternoon after Hurricane Sandy blew through the city in late October.
The museum, full of modern and vintage machines, has been located on the boardwalk since the spring of 2010.
“Over half of their storefront was blown in by Sandy, so they took in water and sand,” said Carrie Turner, director of retail for boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette, “however [they] didn’t lose a single machine.”
Some machines do need repair, Turner said. Silverball passed its final city and county health inspections today.
Other businesses that have reopened on the boardwalk include Watermark, Tim McLoone’s Supper Club and Convention Hall, which hosts a Holiday Bazaar full of pop-up shops each weekend.
“We are thrilled to have another boardwalk business back open during the holiday season,” Turner said.
Silverball owner Robert Ilvento also founded Cluck U Chicken and owns Jersey Shore Fries. Silverball was located in the downtown for two years before moving to the boardwalk. The pinball museum enjoyed a visit from Governor Chris Christie during a press conference in August.
