Six candidates vie for three board of education seats
Deadline to file a nominating petition is 4 p.m. today
As of noon Monday, six candidates have filed to run for three full-term seats on the Asbury Park Board of Education. The election will be held Nov. 4.
The candidates are incumbent Angela Ahbez Anderson of 405 First Ave., Arva M. Council of 1303 Summerfield Ave., Carol B. Jones of 1507 Bond St., incumbent Felicia Simmons of 1410 Summerfield Ave., Charles Paul Smentkowski, Sr. of 1518 Fourth Ave., and Steven Williams of 1100 Atlantic Ave.
Council previously served as a board member but did not retain her seat in after last year’s election. Jones sought a seat as a write-in candidate in the same November election but was also unsuccessful in her bid.
The term of office is three years. Current board member Kenneth Saunders is not seeking re-election.
The deadline to file a nominating petition is 4 p.m.
Due to a change in the city’s form of government that moved city council elections from May to November, both the board of education and city council elections will be held on the same date.
