‘Snow the Love’ effort raises $1,200 for Sandy victims
Over 200 holiday ornaments sold at DJ's Delights to benefit hurricane relief
At DJ’s Delights on Mattison Avenue, owners Ron Wendolowski and DJ Presto [above] decided to “Snow the Love” this season — and raised $1,200 for hurricane relief as a result.
It all started when Presto put up the eatery’s Christmas tree. At first he put just a snowflake ornament at the top. Then he got the idea to sell ornaments ranging from $5 to $20 to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Two hundred sold ornaments later, Presto and Wendolowski had raised $1,200 which will be donated to the Restore the Shore group at a check presentation at the store on Thursday.
“We were originally going to adopt a Sandy family, but we didn’t know how to go about doing it,” Presto said.
So he turned to Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce executive director Jackie Pappas who suggested the Restore the Shore group, which is a division of Hometown Heroes. Pappas was of great assistance in helping the store coordinate the effort, Presto said.
Those purchasing ornaments could either put them on the store tree, or take them home. By the time the store stopped selling the ornaments the tree was filled with snowflakes.
