Snow Won’t Halt City’s Saturday Holiday Celebrations
Officials Confirm 2 p.m. Kwanzaa & 5 p.m. Springwood Park Tree Lighting
The threat of snow Saturday will not stall the holiday celebration in Asbury Park.
According to Tri-State Storm Watch snow will continue throughout the day on Saturday and taper off from west to east between 9 p.m. and midnight.
A total snow accumulation of 3 to 6 inches is expected but temperatures will be near freezing, lending to a reduced amount of accumulation.
City officials have confirmed that the Annual Kwanzaa Celebration and Springwood Park Tree Lighting Ceremony will move forward as planned.
“The snow will only make it more festive,” Mayor John Moor said.
Themed ‘Unstoppable,’ the Kwanzaa celebration will begin at 2 p.m. in the Senior Center, located at 1201 Springwood Ave. The event features DJ, cultural entertainment, prizes and karamu – the cultural feast.
By 5 p.m. the celebration moves to Springwood Park, where Santa is expected to make an appearance at the Annual Tree Lighting.
