The Monmouth County Board of Election’s cannot definitively attribute a cost for a special election, said Chief Clerk Robin Major.
An estimated $25,000 cost was attributed by this news site based on information provided by the municipality.
“We would not quote an amount,” Major said. “We did not sit down and calculate the cost of a special election because it is not just on the Board of Elections.”
Major said costs would need to be determined by all three offices, which include the Clerk of Elections office and the Superintendent/Commission of Registration office.
“After an election is held, we would bill the city with an outline of costs,” Major said.
Those costs include the advertising that is required by law, assignments of board workers, sending out voting machines, establishing polling locations and assigning poll workers.
This year, Asbury voters will be participating in the April 19 Board of Education elections as well as the general November elections.
A special election for the recall of Councilman Jesse Kendle would be held in addition to the two elections.
The Recall Committee has 160 days from the Feb. 25 approval to garner the 2,175 signatures needed to hold the special election.
