Synaxis restaurant closes
Greek eatery looks for new location outside city, liquor license up for sale
Synaxis restaurant, which served Greek cuisine from its location on Cookman Avenue, has closed and its owners are seeking a new spot outside of Asbury Park.
“It’s time for us to look for another location,” said Savas Tsivicos, who owned the restaurant with his wife Maria. “Definitely not in the city. We are looking somewhere not too far away where my type of concept will work.”
Precipitating the decision was the expiration of the lease and the inability to negotiate an acceptable rent with the owner, Tsivicos said. The loss of a large amount of food as a result of Hurricane Sandy, as well as some damage to the building, also contributed to the decision to close after the storm, he said.
The couple own the liquor license on the premises, and that is now available for sale, Tsivicos said.
The restaurant opened in March, 2007.
Meanwhile, the 6,946 square foot space is available for lease, said Susan Burger of Sitar Realty Company TCN, which is handling the listing. The building is owned by Cookman Asbury Associates, LLC, of which William Sitar is the owner, she said.
