Taka sure to make a move to old Synaxis location
Owners planning for 'some serious renovation' to the space
Owners of Taka Restaurant on Mattison Avenue have signed a 5-year lease on the old Synaxis space on Cookman Avenue and have tentative plans to move the restaurant into the new space next year, according to Taka co-owner William Kessler.
In May, when Kessler and his business partners, Taka Hirai and David Martocci, applied to transfer the liquor license from the closed Synaxis restaurant for use at their current location on at 632 Mattison Ave., he informed the Sun of possible plans to move the restaurant to the Synaxis space.
Those plans have now been confirmed. Kessler and his partners have signed a 5-year lease on the space with the option to renew, he said.
“We’re definitely moving—no question about it,” he said.
So far, they have hired an architect and have preliminary renderings of what they plan to do with the space, but are not ready to announce what they are going to be doing in terms of renovation, he said.
“It’s taking a little longer than normal,” he said. “But we’re planning for some serious renovations.”
The renovations could take as long as eight or nine months, but Kessler hopes to be done ahead of schedule.
“When [the public] see[s] what we’re doing they will understand why it is taking so long.”
