Tanzanian First Lady to visit Asbury schools
Mama Salma Kikwete to spend one day next week in city's schools
The school district is gearing up for a visit from a foreign dignitary next week when Tanzanian First Lady Mama Salma Kikwete [pictured at right] comes to town.
The likely date of the visit will be sometime next week, Superintendent Denise Lowe said at last night’s board of education [BOE] meeting. At 9 a.m., Kikwete will arrive for a meet and greet with local and state representatives, board members, community leaders, district administrators and other personnel, according to a release from the district.
Next, the First Lady will speak to a group of students at the high school, followed by a meeting with some middle school students who have taken part in a pen pal program with Tanzanian children.
School district administrators and other staff will have a working lunch with the First Lady to discuss the logistics and specifications of an exchange program between the two countries, according to the release.
