Tao massage spa plans move to Bangs Avenue
'I'd like to make it a destination for relaxation and a little respite from Asbury Park's urban offerings'
A new business is coming to Bangs Avenue this summer when Tao Massage moves from Ocean Township to Asbury Park.
Owner Vivian Taormina has started work on the new location, putting up the business’s window sign this week. She estimates it will be open in June or July.
“I’ve wanted to be in Asbury for a really long time, and now the opportunity has presented itself,” she said.
She calls her new space at 611 Bangs Ave., between Bond and Emory streets, “really unique” because of its inside offerings and its “Brooklyn backyard.” Tao has existed as a business since 2005, and has had Ocean Township headquarters for six years.
Taormina and her staff will be able to accommodate up to five clients at a time in their three therapy rooms and flotation tank. They also offer skin care and massage lessons for couples.
Tao is known for Ashiatsu massage, wherein a therapist uses the feet to massage instead of the hands. Taormina is not aware of any other place in Monmouth County that offers Ashiatsu.
Taormina will also shorten the name from Tao Massage to just Tao, since the business is adding more services to its repertoire.
Part of Tao’s move to Asbury Park will include offering services to clients of all income levels. This will include relatively inexpensive tub-soaking and sauna stays, designed to appeal to people who are looking for a less costly means of relaxation, Taormina said.
In the future, Taormina hopes to install communal hot tubs and saunas in the facility’s backyard, as well as a massage pagoda, a garden and a resting area.
“I’d like to make it a destination for relaxation and a little respite from Asbury Park’s urban offerings,” she said.
