An internal alert near 10:31 p.m. on Nov. 4 by Asbury Park Police Department advising Deal Police of a possible home burglary has led to the arrest of two area residents.
Kenneth Burke, 46, of Asbury Park and Timothy Foote, 38, of Ocean were charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal trespass and theft, Deal Police announced via a news release Wednesday morning.
The tip originated from a taxi driver who told the city police department the suspects requested a round trip fare to a Norwood Avenue location. They returned with a television and several bottles of liquor in hand. According to the taxi driver’s report, he continued to drive the men to an Asbury Park apartment. When they failed to pay the fare, the taxi driver contacted the Asbury Park Police Department, according to the news report.
Deal officers then responded to the area of Poplar and Norwood and located a home that had just been burglarized, officials said. A follow up investigation led to two men’s arrest and all stolen items were returned to the homeowner, officials said.
The accused were remanded to Monmouth County jail in lieu of $20,000.00 bail each, pending a court date. Patrolmen Brad Kerney, Christopher Mirrione, and Dave Talty, assisted Asbury Police Sgt. Sweeney.
