The 26th Annual Carousel Award Recipients Named
A Roaring Twenties theme planned for May 13 event at Berkeley
A construction company, school superintendent, landmark music venue, music producer and local humanitarian are the 2016 Carousel Awards recipients, the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce has announced.
The Carousel Awards honors those who show an outstanding commitment to the city. The 26th annual event will be held 6 p.m. May 13 at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, located at 1401 Ocean Avenue.
Known to help launch the careers of American music legends Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, Jon Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, The Stone Pony will be bestowed with the Landmark Business award.
Fields Construction will be the recipient of the Economic Development award, while music aficionado Sammy Boyd [bottom left] will be awarded the Spirit of Asbury Park award.
School Superintendent Lamont Repollet [above middle] captures the Public Official award this year, while realtor Sonja O’Brien [above right] will receive the Humanitarian award.
“This year’s nominees represent the past, the present and the future of Asbury Park,” Chamber President Roy Werts said in a written statement. “Businesses working in the community, educators, volunteers, residents and icons who have shown us that success knows no boundaries in our city when we work together.”
The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based non profit that works to support the city’s business community at the local, County and State levels. They provide marketing campaigns and consumer events to raise awareness in support of tourism and economic development.
Playing off the ‘Love Asbury Park’ branding campaign, the black-tie event is themed “Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall In Love,” reflecting the spirit of the ‘Roaring Twenties,’ Executive Director Jaqueline Pappas said.
“[The period is] marked by the feeling that anything was possible and that there was ‘nothing but blue skies from now on’ as the song goes,” Pappas said. “The 2016 Carousel honorees exemplify the dedication, loyalty and vision that it takes to build a better future in Asbury Park and to have fun doing it.”
The event features a cocktail hour, dinner by Falco’s Catering, dancing to Des & The Swagmatics, and special performances. Tickets are $150. For more information, call 732-775-7676 or email info@asburyparkchamber.com.
