The Complex offers city Friday night preview of recipes
Bars open through weekend; new eateries launch Monday
The Complex, the new offering of eateries and hang out spot by the Fasano family, opens this weekend in Asbury’s downtown.
The concept is simple – good food at a reasonable price in an atmosphere that honors the city by refurbishing many of its historic elements, Bond Street Bar owner Pat Fasano has said.
While the affordable Italian restaurant Capitoline and Mexican fare La Loteria will officially begin serving food Monday, its bars and The Basement – the newest hang out – opens from noon to 2 a.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
But those in the neighborhood from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday can sample the fare, said Anna Fasano, the creative lead behind The Complex.
The Complex unites Bond Street Bar with Captioline [on Cookman Avenue], which is connected to the Mattison Avenue facing La Loteria via a hallway and stairs that lead to The Basement. The combined capacity is an estimated 260 people.
“It’s like being at your grandma’s house when you were a kid,” General Manager Charlie Interrante has said. “Everyone runs upstairs to eat and then back down in the basement to hangout.”
The Basement has a fully stocked bar and 16 bar taps including the local Dark City’s brews. An assortment of bar games includes darts, foosball, pool and shuffleboard.
At Capitoline, Chef Michael Caputo prepares traditional ‘grandma-style’ recipes, complete with meatball sandwiches and square pizzas.
Over at La Loteria, based on an a la carte Mexican street-style taqueria, Chef Scott Sherman offers tacos using fresh made tortillas, creamy corn esquites and overflowing burritos.
“We really want to be ‘by the people for the people,” Anna Fasano said. “We really do want to deliver high quality food with great flavor.”
The Complex fully opens at 11 a.m. Monday. All its eateries are open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, with the kitchens closing at midnight.
Bond Street Bar at 208 Bond Street opens from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with the kitchen open from noon to midnight.
Capitoline at 639 Cookman Ave and La Loteria at 632 Mattison Ave opens 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with the kitchens serving brunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the regular menus from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The Basement is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
