THE ROAD TO THE GREEN NEW DEAL
Town Hall Forum Being Held 7 to 9:30 pm at Macedonia Baptist Church
Three burgeoning local activists have organized The Road To The Green New Deal, a town hall forum being held 7 to 9:30 pm tonight, May 10, at Macedonia Baptist Church located at 1924 Heck Ave in Neptune.
The organizers are Alex Inkiow, 21, Summer Clark, 19, and Brittany McLaughlin, 20, of Sunrise Jersey Shore, a local arm to the global movement of young people uniting to stop the climate crisis.
The evening forum brings progressive activists, political organizations, and statewide environmental and social justice organizations together for a discussion aimed at educating the public on the Green New Deal’s local impact.
“With a recent U.N. study announcing that one million plant and animal species are in danger of extinction within 12 years due to man-made climate change, the global climate crisis and the controversial Green New Deal has become one of the biggest concerns for social justice and environmental advocates nationally,” said Asbury Park Democratic Committee Chair Joe Grillo. “This forum is meant to educate the public and dispel myths surrounding the GND, what its impact is on the Garden State, and most importantly what actions you can take locally to address the global climate crisis.”
Moderated by Randall Solomon of Sustainable Highland Park, panelists include Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of the NJ League of Conservation Voters; Todd Vachon of the Labor Network for Sustainability; Junior Romero, Executive Director of Food and Water Watch NJ; and Dr. Nicky Sheats, Director of the Center for the Urban Environment of the John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy at Thomas Edison State University.
Aside from the panel discussions, there will be a Q&A and opportunities to meet members of Sunrise Jersey Shore, NJ League of Conservation Voters, Action Together NJ (Shore Area),
Black Lives Matter Asbury Park, Bus for Progress, Food and Water Watch NJ, Indivisible Bayshore, Indivisible Central Jersey, Indivisible NJ-3, Labor Network for Sustainability, Monmouth County Young Democrats, National Action Network Asbury Park, Our Revolution Monmouth, South Jersey Young Democrats Black Caucus, and the Democratic Organizations of Asbury Park, Neptune, Bradley Beach, Freehold Township, Middletown, Red Bank, Tinton Falls, Wall Township, Waretown, Barnegat and Allentown; who are all event sponsors.
The free event is being held in Macedonia Baptist Church’s social hall and is open to the public.
