The Soul Rebels Are Headed To Asbury Park
New Orleans Brass Band Headlines Halfway 2 Mardi Gras At Anchor's Bend
New Orleans brass sensations The Soul Rebels will headline this year’s Halfway 2 Mardis Gras event at The Anchor’s Bend, located in Convention Hall. This is the band the Village Voice called the missing link between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong.
Comprised of eight brass players, the ensemble has been basking in global recognition following the success of their 2016 tour throughout Europe, Australia, China, and Japan. They’ve played with a range of artists, including Marilyn Manson, Umphrey’s McGee, Kool & The Gang, Rakim, Black Thought of The Roots, and Bruno Mars.
From brass and snare drums to sax, sousaphone, trumpet and trombone, the ensemble blends the New Orleans brass tradition with elements of soul, funk, hip-hop rock, and jazz. When not touring, band performs weekly at New Orleans’ Le Bon Temps Roulé.
Held in collaboration with ElmThree Productions, the Fifth Annual Halfway 2 Mardis Gras celebration runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug 8 on the Beach Stage, north of Convention Hall. It features an evening of music and celebration, Madison Marquette spokesman Adam Nelson said. This is a free 21 and over event that will feature drink specials and a special clambake for $29.
