The Starving Artist At Days Outdoor Theater Returns
A Musical...Revue Tips Hat to Broadway Past And Present
The Starving Artist Restaurant’s Summer Theater brings back its live outdoor performance this weekend.
It’s a Musical…Revue, a nod to Broadway musicals past and present, opens 7:30 p.m. Friday and will run through July 8, organizers said.
The revue will feature renditions of acclaimed Broadway titles from The Sound of Music to Purlie, Sweeney Todd to Matilda, Bye, Bye Birdie to Finding Neverland, Production Director Nick Montesano said.
Musical Director Jeff Brown leads the show’s stars, which includes veterans Jennifer Nelson, Jessica Vitalo, Casey Grady Surgent, Heather McLaughlin, Amanda Munice, Montesano, and [at right] Starving Artist owner Arnold Teixeira. Newcomers include Samantha Maidlow, Steven Brandt, Tyler Cicardo, Sean Dickinson, Carly Cosentino, and Daniel Byrne. Stage management is done by Allison Walter.
The NJACT Perry Award winning theater company has has produced shows for close to 15 years. The accolade came for their Summer Summer, Summer Summer, Too and Summer and The Prequel for Outstanding Production of an Original Musical.
“Open rehearsals on the porch provide passersby with a glimpse of the process needed to mount such a production,” Montesano said. “Summer audiences have embraced the whimsy of these productions and make it a tradition to attend.”
It’s a Musical…Revue will run 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and Thursday through Saturday July 6 to 8. Shows run rain or shine and tickets are $20, available via 732.988.1007. The Starving Artist at Days is located at 48 Pitman Ave.
