Parking, CDBG, and tax abatement at former Upstage Club on agenda
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to hold a workshop meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in council chambers at City Hall at 1 Municipal Plaza.
A public participation session is scheduled to take place near the end of the meeting, after comments from city officials. Items on the agenda for the meeting include the following special event applications:
• A January 1st 3.1 mile First Day First Bier Run/Walk sponsored by Split Second Racing of Rumson from the Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten on Lake Avenue to along the boardwalk.
• The January 30th Asbury Park Rotary Polar Bear Plunge at the Fifth Avenue beach.
• Split Second Racing’s June 18th TNYAC Icebreaker Swim at the Fifth Avenue beach and its Aug. 28 Born to Tri Triathlon kicking off at Bradley Park.
• Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School’s July 8th to 10th Festival in Bradley Park.
• Asbury Fresh’s artisan and farmer’s market 2016 calendar running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays June 12 to Sept 25 and 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays July 1 to Aug. 26 at Kennedy Park.
• Cassandra Dickerson of the municipality’s Community Development Department will give a presentation regarding the city’s 2016 Community Development Block Grant action plan. A $150,000 grant appropriation will go toward the following chosen applicants: Interfaith Neighbors’ Kula Café, Hope Academy, Community Affairs Resource Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth and Coastal Habitat for Humanity.
• The Asbury Park Parking Advisory Committee will present its 2016 recommendations for the city’s Parking Utility.
• The City Council will hear iStar’s redevelopment plans for Asbury Lanes and the city’s Technical Review Committee’s recommendations as it pertains to design waivers for the Fourth Avenue structure’s rehabilitation.
• The governing body will discuss the proposed 700 Cookman Avenue tax abatement request at the former Upstage Club site as well as an amendment to the Waterfront Redevelopment Plan to establish a one-way designation along Heck Street between Lake and Cookman avenues.
