Equal Pay, Women's March Recognition, and State of the City On Agenda
The Asbury Park City Council will meet Wednesday in Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
A 4 p.m. Executive Session precedes the 6 p.m. Workshop. The Regular Session meeting begins at 7 p.m, with public participation taking place at the beginning of the regular meeting.
Items on the agenda include:
• Executive Session discussions regarding a medical coverage, contract negotiations with Interfaith Neighbors for their JAMS project and Fasano Properties Dollar Tree development, the State of NJ vs The Asbury Hotel, et al case, potential litigation re Licensed Site Remediation Professional and attorney client privilege.
• During the Workshop Session the City Council hear a presentation of special event applications for the Annual Asbury Park Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, Westside Citizens Valentine’s Day Luncheon, and a Polar Bear Bike Ride.
• In seeking a plan amendment, representatives from Sackman Enterprises will present an overview for a proposed residential complex at 512 Summerfield Avenue that features one and two bedroom, flat and duplex units.
• Fasano Properties will present details pertaining to an easement encroachment for the 1105 Main St Dollar Tree Store development.
• And, City Manager Michael Capabianco will present a review of agenda items for the Regular Session meeting.
• The 7 p.m. meeting will feature a Proclamation recognizing the Asbury Park Women’s March organizers and a State of the City presentation by Capabianco.
• The City Council will cast votes pertaining to budgetary items, special events, the appointment of Jordan Modell to the ad hoc Parking Committee, a New Jersey Department of Transportation [NJDOT] grant application for Heck Street Improvements, and a 2017 Distracted Driving Statewide Crackdown grant application.
• Votes will be cast for a $2.89 million general improvement bond application to the Local Finance Board, needed as a city on transitional aid; and the disposition of surplus equipment.
• Also on tap are the setting of the 2017 Beach Season, a 120-day trial implementation of an IPS Group parking meter to evaluate its performance; the transfer of property back to the Westside Community Center, first effectuated via an ‘In Rem’ foreclosure proceeding, which should have been returned following a March 1996 judgement; and a formal disapproval of Gov. Chris Christie’s veto of Senate bill 992, which amends the state law against discrimination to make it illegal for women to paid lower rate than men with equal experience and qualifications.
• New ordinances include the creation of handicapped parking spaces along city roadways, extending the term limits on the Wesley Lake Commission from one to three years; and setting the Asbury Park Fire Department’s ambulance transportation fee at $780.
• The public will have an opportunity to ask question and make comments prior to the final votes on establishing a mandatory direct deposit payment for all local government employees; establishing guidelines for the city attorney, municipal prosecutor, municipal public defender and code enforcement prosecutor; the hierarchical outline of the Asbury Park Police Department and the number of employees for each post; and the increase of payment in lieu of parking rates from $3,000 to $15,000 developers must submit if the required parking is not provided.
