Final vote to allow downtown distillery on agenda
The 2013 Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall for the last time before new members are sworn in Jan. 1 at noon. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting.
The public should take note meeting dates and times will shift in the new year. Starting Jan 12 they will take place on the second and fourth Monday and Tuesday of each month.
Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting sessions include:
• An ordinance to amend the Central Business District Redevelopment Plan to allow a distillery to operate at 527 Lake Ave. A public hearing on the matter will take place prior to the council’s vote.
Discussion of several special event applications, including the Sons of Ireland Polar Bear Plunge and Rotary Club Polar Plunge.
• A resolution to accept and approve a long-term tax exemption application for the K. Hovnanian South Grand townhomes.
• A resolution to accept a military surplus bulldozer.
• A resolution to authorize submissionof a grant application to dredge portions of Deal Lake.
• An ordinance to execute a financial agreement for a long term tax exemption with Asbury Partners for the K. Hovnanian South Grand townhomes. A public hearing on the matter will take place prior to the council’s vote.
• An ordinance to convey an sidewalk easement for Asbury Partners to construct a fence on the site of the K. Hovnanian South Grand town homes. A public hearing on the matter will take place prior to the council’s vote.
• An ordinance to give hiring priority to city residents for non-uniformed classified civil service positions. A public hearing on the matter will take place prior to the council’s vote.
In executive session, the council will discuss contract negotiations with South Grand Urban Renewal, LLC., for a long-term tax exemption for K. Hovnanian’s South Grand townhome project. They will also discuss several matters of litigation, including workman’s compensation claims and two civil suits.
