Seasonal CO's, public hearing on tax abatement ordinance on agenda
The city council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 4 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting sessions include:
• A discussion on an ordinance that would make it easier for landlords to lease their properties on a short-term basis in the summer by granting one certificate of occupancy [CO] for the season.
• Introduction of an ordinance that would change parking regulations in several school zones.
• The council will vote on several resolutions, including one for appointments made to the city’s zoning board; to increase the bid threshold for an appointment to the purchasing agent’s office; appropriation of 2013 reserve transfer funds; and a resolution to close out on retirement agreements for two municipal employees.
• A presentation by the city’s Director of Commerce, Tom Gilmour, on funding for the 2013-2014 UEZ audit.
• A presentation and discussion on several special events applications, including one for the “Step it up for the Arc” 5K run/walk , a breast cancer awareness campaign called “paint the town pink”, and an event to increase public awareness of the Rebuild by Design competition effort in Asbury Park through the Scale it Up program; and several special event applications for weddings. taking place in the city.
• A discussion to award a bid contract to a debt collection company to collect the city’s outstanding municipal court debts.
• A discussion on updating leases for vendors that occupy space in the city’s transportation center.
• Two public hearings will take place, one on an ordinance that addresses salaries for the fire department, and one on the proposed extension of a 5-year tax exemption ordinance.
In executive session, the council will discuss contract negotiations and potential litigation for a state mandated sprinkler system to be installed in Convention Hall; contract negotiations for the potential sale of 1506 Park Avenue, redevelopment issues with Asbury Partners/iStar Financial, and termination of a financial agreement with Esperanza Urban Renewal LLC.; the council will also discuss a personnel appointment to the city’s zoning board.
