The Sun’s city council preview — March 5, 2014
On agenda: Budget introduction, housing authority camera upgrades
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting sessions include:
• Introduction of the 2015 city budget.
• A discussion on the New Jersey Overdose Prevention Act and a syringe exchange program.
• Discussion on a project to upgrade video cameras through an agreement with the Asbury Park Housing Authority.
• A resolution to establish a date for 2014 beach opening and beach access fees.
• Several special event applications, including one for the the 25th Annual Jazz Festival and another for the Asbury Park Comicon.
• A resolution for appointments and re-appointments to the city’s professional staff.
• A resolution to amend the temporary budget.
• Introduction of an amendment to the city’s taxi ordinance.
Public hearings will take place on locations for school bus drop-off zones, one at Sewall and Grand avenues and another at Monroe and Grand Avenues.
In executive session, the council will discuss contract negotiations and potential litigation for a state mandated sprinkler system to be installed in Convention Hall and control of three waterfront parking lots, and the potential sale of the Park Avenue Firehouse property to the Asbury Park Board of Education.
