Vote to allow a microbrewery to occupy Main Street storefront
The Asbury Park City Council is scheduled to meet Wednesday in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting sessions include:
• A presentation by city Planning and Redevelopment Director Don Sammet to request an amendment to the Main Street Redevelopment Plan to allow a storefront microbrewery at 1001 Main Street.
• A discussion of two special event applications, one for a two-mile run/walk to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County and another for a Stand-Up Paddleboard race.
• Votes on several resolutions will take place, they include:
– Acknowledgement and acceptance of the 2015 Memorandum of Understanding between the city and the state Department of Local Government Services.
– Authorization of free parking at any of the city’s metered spots every Thursday from Nov. 27 through Jan 1., and on Saturday, Nov. 29.
– Approval to apply for a 2014 Year-End “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” funds.
– Authorization of a payment in lieu of taxes agreement for The Renaissance, a proposed housing project on Springwood Avenue.
— Authorization of compensatory payment to employees who are retiring or ending their employment with the city.
– Cancellation of sewer charges at addresses on Atkins Avenue, Boston Way and Memorial Drive.
• First reading of an ordinance to amend residency requirements for city employees.
• Second reading of ordinances to establish salaries for certain employees, revise the city’s general ordinances for loading zones, and to establish a handicapped parking space at 1201 Springwood Ave. Public hearings will take place prior to the city council’s final vote on these ordinances.
In executive session, the council will discuss contract negotiations with Springwood Avenue redeveloper The Michaels Organization on a payment in lieu of tax [PILOT] agreement for The Renaissance development on Springwood Avenue, a redevelopers’ agreement for the Kinmouth Building, contract negotiations for the potential sale of the Park Avenue Firehouse to the Asbury Park Board of Education, and an application for a long-term tax exemption for the South Grand townhomes.
