The city council is scheduled to meet tonight in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting include:
• A presentation on a “little library” from city resident Anita Weiner.
• A discussion to amend the hours of operation included in the city’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Ordinance to later in the morning.
• A presentation by City Engineer Joe Cunha requesting authorization to start the competitive bid process for the second phase of the south boardwalk reconstruction; a recycling calendar art contest with students at the Asbury Park Middle School; and a resolution requesting permission to advertise for competitive bids for improvements to the west side community center.
• A presentation by Captain David Kelso on C.O.P.S. grant funding.
• An application to extend the liquor license at Johnny Mac House of Spirits into the adjacent parking lot for an event on Oct. 26, 2013.
• Two resolutions, one to appoint an individual to the second alternate position on the city’s zoning board and another to refund tax overpayment at 1002 Fifth Ave.
• A public hearing is scheduled to take place on a refunding bond ordinance. The council may take action after the hearing.
In executive session, the council will discuss several personnel issues, including the chief municipal finance officer’s position, the city manager’s position and appointments to the zoning board, housing authority and other commissions. They will also discuss two matters of litigation.
