Same-sex marriage res., OEM storm preparedness presentation on agenda
The city council is scheduled to meet tonight in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting include:
• Introduction of a resolution to urge legislators to vote in support of same-sex marriages.
• A presentation by Fire Chief Kevin Keddy on the city’s emergency storm preparedness.
• An application to expand the Asbury Lanes liquor license to the plot east of the premises for a beer garden.
• An application to extend the liquor license at Johnny Mac House of Spirits for two events happening Oct. 5 and Oct. 13, 2013.
• Several special event application requests will be discussed, including applications for the Asbury Park High School Homecoming game and parade, the Asbury Park Polar Bear Club race and a “Lights on After School” program.
• A presentation by City Engineer Joe Cunha seeking authorization to begin the bid process for a contractor to continue reconstruction of the south boardwalk.
In executive session, the council will discuss several personnel issues, including the chief municipal finance officer’s position and appointments to the recreation commission, zoning board and housing authority. They will also discuss contract negotiations for subsequent Waterfront Redeveloper’s agreements and the sale of the Park Avenue Fire House and a potential matter of litigation involving former Asbury Park police officer Derrick Parreott.
