On The Agenda: A Sunset Bike Ride & Explorers Supper Club To A Green Expo & Bernstein Tribute Concert
Spring Sunset Bike Ride
The Asbury Park Complete Streets Coalition Community Bike Ride returns 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. All ages and skill levels are invited to participate in this spring sunset ride that begins and ends at Springwood Avenue Park, located at the corner of Atkins Avenue. Participants should dress for the weather and helmets are required for all riders under age 17. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
Secure The Shore
This 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday seminar at the Paramount Theatre, 1300 Ocean Ave, is being held by the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, in collaboration with the US Department of Homeland Security, New Jersey State Police, Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Asbury Park Police Department. The Hometown Security Initiative is being held to foster collaboration between local, county, state and federal law enforcement, and homeland security organizations to support the safety and security of communities. Explorers Supper Club
This weekly dinner series features plant-based culinary journey through Southeast Asian fare by Bret Morgan and Shiah Blau at High Voltage Cafe & Grocery, located at 808 Springwood Avenue. String Bean, Elder Kim Murphy and The Trinity Choristers headline this 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday concert fundraiser at Second Baptist Church, located at 124 Atkins Ave. The event is being held in support of the Women’s Hospitality Network – a network of churches and organizations that provide respite and support services for women experiencing homelessness from December through March. The network includes Asbury Park Deliverance Temple, Atonement Lutheran Church, Boardwalk Vineyard Church, Church of God of Prophecy, DevOps Advisors, First United Methodist Church, Jersey Shore Dream Center, Jersey Shore Food Not Bombs, Monmouth University, Second Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, St. Augustine Church, The Campus at Macedonia, and Trinity Episcopal Church. Green Expo
The City will host a 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Sustainable Asbury Park Green Expo at 1 Municipal Plaza and Community Gardens. The free event features free recycling and a paper shredding truck. There will be healthy eats, a green marketplace, demos, workshops, plants, green ideas, and healthy living tips. The event is sponsored by the City’s Green Team and Quality of Life Committee. Spring Beach Sweeps
Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps returns 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Join in clearing debris and trash by meeting at the following areas: Asbury Park: North End of Convention Hall at 1300 Ocean Ave and at North Beach in the dirt lot near Asbury Towers; Deal: Hathaway Avenue beach; Loch Arbour & Allenhurst: Euclid Avenue beach; Ocean Grove: Boardwalk Pavilion, located one block to the north of the Ocean Vista Hotel at 13 Ocean Ave. Participants should dress for weather conditions. A Time for Us: The Leonard Bernstein Centennial
A two-day concert series celebrating Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday will take place 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Axelrod Performing Arts Center, located at 100 Grant Ave in the Deal Park section of Ocean Township. Conducted by Ryan Brandau, the event features the Monmouth Civic Chorus, with a 30-piece orchestra and ten soloists. Tickets range from $35 to $42, available via axelrodartscenter.com.
Carp Fishing Contest
The Sixth Annual Asbury Park Fishing Club Carp Contest will be held from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday. Open to all, pick your spot anywhere along or on the 158 acre waterbody and weigh in the day’s catch by noon at the Deal Lake flume on Ocean Avenue. Cash prizes are given for the most caught – $200, largest carp – $100, and junior winner under age 12 – $25. No registration is required but freshwater licenses are required for ages 14 to 70.
