KYDS Mindful Meditation & Open Mic
Konscious Youth Development & Services will host Super Moon Monday Meditation and Sound
Healing, open to all ages, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Monday at Kula Café [1201 Springwood Ave]. On Saturday their One Soul Open Mic kicks off at 6:30 p.m. but join them 5:40 p.m. for a Mindful Meditation sit, before the area’s poets, comedians, rappers, dancers, singers and musicians take the stage. Interfaith Neighbor’s Biz Development for Food Entrepreneurs
Through a collaboration Dean’s Natural Food Market and Rutgers University’s Food Innovation Center, Interfaith Neighbors Business Development Center will launch a Food Entrepreneur Program Wednesday with its Food Business Basics Seminar. Held from noon to 4 p.m. at The ShowRoom Cinema [707 Cookman Ave], budding entrepreneurs can learn the critical aspects of bringing a packaged product to market. Participants will be eligible the free workshop designed to bring the idea of a food product into fruition. The seminar costs $15 and support loans will available for program participants. Lighthouse Lands, in collaboration with Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, the Monmouth Medical Center and the Sheraton Hotel will host a 7 p.m. Thursday benefit dinner for those in Jeremie, Haiti affected by Hurricane Matthew. Kula Hosts Farm to Table Dinner
Catered by Kula Café, a four course meal featuring seasonally grown produce from the urban farm will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kula Farm [115 Atkins Ave]. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite wine. Tickets are $60 per person, with gratuity included. Love Yoga Tribe for Root to Rise
The local Love Yoga Tribe will host its first yoga-music event in support of another local organization Root to Rise. LYT combines Vinyasa with light, projection and music, to leverage ancient practices like chromo therapy and sound therapy in order to bring practitioners into a deeper mind state. The free LYT launch event will kick off at 6 p.m. in Porta’s Abbott Room [911 Kingsley St]. There will be two 75 minute classes followed by a dance party featuring DJ HyFi – Ian Hyman. Westside Community Center Youth Forum
Former NFL player and VH1 Love and Hip Hop star Ki’Ameer ‘Silk’ Johnson will be among the guest panelists during this Youth Forum to begin 3 p.m. Saturday at Westside Community Center [115 Dewitt Ave]. The free event includes complimentary dinner and also features Epic Will Power’s Tarrell Jones and Tehvin Garrett.
Forth Union hosts Brixton Coat Exchange
The AP Boardwalk’s recently opened Forth Union skateboard park will kick off the holiday season with The Brixton Coat Exchange, held from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday at The Paramount Theatre’s Mezzanine [1300 Ocean Ave]. Bring a gently used or new coat to be donated to the AP Toy & Coat Drive and you’ll be entered to win a brand new coat from Brixton. Featuring music by DJ Foggy Notion, door prizes include other giveaways from the skate and surf gear company. Items for men and women include Brixton coats, hats, and clothing. The event is free.
Build a Basket for The Center
The Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and Build a Basket event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at The Center in Asbury Park [806 Third Ave]. The goal is to build baskets for its over 250 clients and those wishing to donate and/or participate in the event are asked to bring any of the following items: gravy, stuffing mix, canned vegetables, canned yams, canned potatoes or instant potatoes, canned cranberry sauce, corn muffin or biscuit mixes, canned fruit, candies, nuts, cookies, pudding, cake mixes, a frozen turkey, or canned ham. Transgender Day of Remembrance
Honoring transgender people who were killed this year, music refreshments and a reading of the names of trans people killed this year make up this Day of Remembrance. Also held to highlight the struggles, creativity, resilience, and beauty, the event will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Paramount Theatre Mezzanine [1300 Ocean Ave]. Invoke the Stoke for Charity
The national SurfArt for charity series Invoke the Stoke lands from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Asbury Park Yacht Club and Lightly Salted Surf Shop [1000 Ocean Ave].
