Fundraisers, Benefits, Job Fair, Expungement, & Pill Take Back On The Schedule
TOAST PANCAKE RUN
Toast Asbury Park hosts a 5k run setting off at 8 a.m. The benefit event is being held in support of Root to Rise, a local organization dedicated to supporting those recovering from addiction and mental health issues. Participants with race bibs will get free pancakes. Registration fee is $35 via the event sign up page.
BABES IN BIZ CELEBRATE INAUGURAL YEAR
Babes in Business, professional women support network celebrate their first year anniversary from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Oct 25 at Porta, located at 911 Kingsley St. Event speakers include Melissa Epstein of I Wonder Coaching Life Coach; Bailey Frumen, a therapist, coach psychotherapist and author; and Corinne Zupko of From Anxiety to Love, speaking on The Life of a Boss Babe – Hustling, Crushing Goals, and Finding Me Time. Tickets are $20, with $5 going toward the Boys and Girls Club of Asbury Park.
CRUCIAL CATCH DAY
Following the edict that the best defense is a good offense, the New York Jets supported Crucial Catch Day returns to Asbury Park on Oct 26. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the VNACJ Community Health Center, located at 1301 Main St. Transportation will be provided for women to receive mammograms, organizers said. The day includes snacks, giveaways, health and cancer education, a photo booth and DJ.
YOUNG ADULT JOB FAIR
The Monmouth County Division of Workforce Development brings its Young Adult Job Fair back to Asbury Park on Oct 28. Being held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army, located at 605 Asbury Avenue, the event is open to those ages 16 to 24. Companies scheduled to attend include Six Flags Great Adventure, Kmart, Panera Bread, Durham Bus Services, and Home Depot. Prospective employees should dress for interview opportunities, organizers said.
APPD PRESCRIPTION TAKE BACK
The Asbury Park Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Prescription Take Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct 28, the department will accept expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs as part of the national initiative to prevent pill abuse. This is the department’s 14th participation in seven years. The pill collection will held all day at the 1 Municipal Plaza lobby.
BEYOND BODYSLAMS W/ GARY MICHAEL CAPPETTA
Legendary wrestling broadcaster Gary Michael Cappetta brings his insider stage show Beyond Bodyslams to Asbury Park on Oct. 28. This backstage view of an over 40-year career features an array of zany stories and a rare video presentation never screened in public. The event kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at The Lakehouse Music Academy, located at 619 Lake Ave.
EXPUNGEMENT SERVICES
A free Expungement Session for Monmouth County residents will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 28 at St. Stephen AMEZ Church, located at 1001 Springwood Ave. Attorneys will be on hand to discuss and assist with stage 1 and 2 of the process. Participants should bring court dispositions and criminal background checks. The service is sponsored by Asbury Park Community Action Netweork.
A CALL FOR DONATIONS
The Center in Asbury Park needs the community’s help. A call has been made for nonperishable items to help stock the Third Avenue nonprofit’s shelves. Needed donations include cereal, oatmeal, juice, soup, macaroni & cheese, and canned goods, like vegetables, fruit, tuna, chicken, and beef stew. Also suggested are beans, instant mashed potatoes, pasta, rice, peanut butter, jams & jellies, pudding, Jell-O, tea, coffee, healthy snacks, and granola bars. DRINK PINK FOR CANCER PREVENTION
The Bonney Read has launched a Drink Pink campaign in support of fighting breast cancer. Named for two female pirates, the downtown Asbury Park venue will donate a portion of all rose sales through October to Monmouth Medical Center/Barnabas Health, Monmouth Medical Group cancer support programs.
