Third Annual JET Program Kicks Off This Month
KYDS joins Interfaith Neighbors' youth entrepreneurial program
The Asbury Park Junior Entrepreneur Training [JET] Program returns this year under the guidance of Konscious Youth Development and Services.
Kicking off its third year on Nov. 12, the program has drawn the interest of a record number of middle students from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Hope Academy and Sisters Academy schools, organizers said in a written news release.
JET began as an initiative by Interfaith Neighbors’ Business Development Center on Springwood Avenue.
The program is a hands on collaborative of students and volunteer business professionals who bring a product from concept into fruition and then onto the marketplace at the annual Made in Monmouth event.
The kids vie for loans by giving formal business plan presentation then move on to production. Proceeds from their Made in Monmouth participation are used to pay off their loans and students have donated the remaining funds to charity.
This year, JET is transitioning to a Konscious Youth Development & Service [KYDS] organization headed by Mychal Mills and Rodney Salomon [shown below right].
KYDS programs and services aim to create balance through the body, mind and soul. Aside from its meditation and yoga workshops, the nonprofit heads open mic nights in Asbury Park and Red Bank.
“KYDS is happy to partner with Interfaith Neighbors on this initiative and looks forward to building on its success,” Mills said in a written statement.
Mills [shown above at right] will act as co director alongside Charles W. Simmons, who has been a part of the program since its creation.
