Town Hall with Gubernatorial Candidate Phil Murphy
Discussion begins 7 p.m. at Harold Daley VFW Post No. 1333
Democratic 2017 Gubernatorial Candidate Philip Murphy is the featured speaker during a Town Hall event at Harold Daley VFW Post No. 1333, located at 701 Lake Ave.
The former US German Ambassador and Goldman Sachs executive, is known for championing middle-class causes via his New Start New Jersey, a progressive nonprofit policy think tank.
“At this point, Philip Murphy is the only declared candidate for governor,” said local Democratic Organization Chair Giuseppe Grillo who will introduce the candidate. ” There is speculation that Jersey City Mayor Stephen Fulop and New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney will also be throwing their hats in the ring on the Democratic side.”
This will be Murphy’s third such event in Asbury Park, Grillo said. Earlier this year, he spoke at a town hall held at CoWerks on Lake Avenue and one held at Second Baptist Church on Atkins Avenue.
“While Governor Christie goes around the state, bashing Asbury Park by name, it is critical that Asbury Park residents have person-to-person dialogue with candidates running to replace him,” Grillo said. “Ambassador Murphy is an exceptional example of how a leader engages a community.”
The Middletown resident’s campaign outlines gun violence policy, a stronger minimum wage, innovative job training, earned sick leave, more secure retirement initiatives, equal pay, dependent tax credits, affordable college and housing, and expanding Earned Income Tax Credit and Veterans services.
The Boston native graduated from Harvard University and obtained an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Murphy and wife Tammy have four children.
The 7 p.m. Wednesday town hall will allow participant to share issues and concerns. To RSVP, email rsvp@murphy4nj.com with subject Monmouth.
