Trinity Trekkers Ride in Battle Against Hunger
Team aims to raise $20,000 in support Food Justice Programs
A group of cyclers will be taking a ride to help stave off hunger.
Known as the Trinity Trekkers, the team will be riding in support of Trinity Episcopal Church’s Food Justice programs.
This is the Asbury Avenue located church’s third year of participation in the 200-mile Battle Against Hunger bike ride.
Last year Dave Osis, Paul Chowansky, Loni Hulse, Jerry Spanarkel, and Donna Bridge complete the two-day ride from Gettysburg to Washington Crossing. Riders Polli Schildge and Michael Kushner also complete the one-day 63 mile ride. The team raised close to $15,000 for Trinity’s Food Justice Programs.
This year, David DuBois, Lesley Castellini, Michael Way, Loni Hulse, Polli Schildge, James Kaufman, Richard Gladstone, Dave Osis, Gerald Spanarkel, Michael Kushner, and Paul Chowansky have signed on to raise $20,000 during the Sept 9 and 10 event.
All money raised will go directly to Trinity’s Food Justice programs including its Last Resort Food Pantry, which provides 400 hundred bags of food a week; its Saturday Soup, which provides 200 hundred meals a week; and the Chorister program, which provides two meals a week to children.
Trinity’s Food Pantry and Saturday Soup kitchen are run by local volunteers who serve over 35,000 meals a year. During the soup kitchen events, volunteer social workers and an acupuncturists are on hand.
“We continuously work to get more local, healthy, and organic food to serve to our guests,” Social and Food Justice Director Derek Minno-Bloom said in a written statement.
