‘Twist of Lemon’ house tour coming June 3
Variety of homes ranging from new to Victorian will be on display
With the “Twist of Lemon” house tour, the Asbury Park Homeowners Association [APHA] is celebrating the city’s ability to turn lemons into lemonade on June 3.
The tour will “show the diversity of our homes — Victorian, vintage, new and condos as well,” said Conrad Neblett, APHA treasurer. This is the organization’s 17th annual tour.
“This is an opportunity for people to see how we live in Asbury Park,” Neblett [pictured above, in his kitchen] said.
Neblett’s own Sunset Avenue home, which boasts a lake view and three bedrooms, will be one of the 10 to 12 featured domiciles on the tour.
Those who visit Neblett’s home will see a variety of antiques and heirlooms. It seems every object in his house has a story behind it, from the antique vanity he stumbled upon in Ocean Grove last year to the tribal tapestries he designed for his French-African-themed living room.
“The more you travel, you begin to love other cultures,” Neblett, a singer who spent years performing overseas, said of his propensity for globally-influenced decoration. His bedroom, for example, has an Asian theme.
During the house tour, Neblett will offer icey lemon-flavored treats. In keeping with the theme, each homeowner on the tour will be offering a citrusy refreshment.
The tour on June 3 starts at 1506 Grand Ave. and lasts from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It costs $20 in advance and $25 the day of the tour. It functions as a fundraiser for the APHA’s operational expenses and scholarships. This year, they hope to raise $5,000.
Tour-goers will also receive a guidebook, which contains the history of Asbury Park as well as the stories behind all of the homes on the tour.
