Two Local Churches To Host Community Weekend Events
Gun Violence Vigil & Black History Month Community Recognitions Slated For Saturday & Sunday
Two community events will be taking place at local churches this weekend.
First up is the 10 am to noon Survivors of Everyday Gun Violence Listening Project and Vigil at Second Baptist Church, located at 124 Atkins Ave.
The featured guest speaker is Regina Thompson-Jenkins, whose son Tre Devon Lane died after shielding two friends from random gunfire in Trenton.
Organizers said there will be a Survivor Story Wall to allow family and friends to post pictures and memories. There also will be a candlelight vigil with attendees invited to share stories of how gun violence has impacted their lives.
At 11 am Sunday, the Crisis in the Village – Restoring Hope Black History Month Celebration will be held at St. Stephen AMEZ Church, located at 1001 Springwood Avenue.
The event features honoring this year’s Making a Difference Community Service Award recipients.
They include Roberta Beauford, director of Daily Operations for the Asbury Park Board of Education; Dianna Harris, president of the Midtown Urban Renaissance Cooperation; Diane Shelton, Interfaith Neighbors Community Outreach Specialist, and Neptun Township’s former mayor and sitting Committeeman.
Visit the church’s social media pages for more information.
