Police Officer Lorenzo Pettway and Firefighter Joseph P. Ryan III were honored at last week’s council meeting as firefighter and police officer of the year, thanks to the city’s Veterans of Foreign Wars [VFW] Post.
“A man’s home is his castle,” VFW past president Lou Parisi said at the meeting. “Once we walk through that front door, we have that feeling that we are safe and … that safety is the result of those men and women in the fire and police department that protect us day and night.”
Pettway and Ryan received proclamations from the city council, and Mayor Ed Johnson also spoke at the meeting.
“What you do and what you represent here in Asbury Park is very important to this community,” Johnson said. “Safety services have always been the backbone of Asbury Park … You have the respect of the city government and the respect of the citizens of Asbury Park.”
