Bangs Avenue coffee shop Cafe Volan celebrated its first anniversary last night by collaborating with two other local businesses on a new product — vegan waffle sandwiches.
Volan’s owners teamed up with From Seed to Sprout and Raw Dog vegan gelato to create this “trifecta of delicious-ness,” From Seed to Sprout co-owner Cara Pescatore said.
Raw Dog’s Paul Ritchie uses iced coffee from Cafe Volan to create his coffee-flavored raw cashew gelato, while Pescatore and co-owner Alex Mazzucca provided the hot vegan waffles, made with spelt flour, Pescatore said.
Volan’s owners, Paul Cali and Doug Parent, invited patrons to the inaugural Waffle Wednesday last night, with vegan ice cream sandwiches available to all patrons. Although Waffle Wednesday will not be a weekly occurrence, this definitely isn’t the last time patrons will be invited into Volan for an evening ice cream treat, Cali said.
“It’s great to see our morning crowd, weekend crowd and destination crowd all at once,” Parent said of the event, which took place in the evening. “It’s a good opportunity to bring everybody we see on a daily basis together at once.”
