The Deal Lake Commission and Friends of Deal Lake are looking for volunteers to help clean Deal Lake on Saturday, March 23.

Two cleanups — one in Asbury Park and one in Loch Arbour — are being held as part of Clean Ocean Action’s Waves of Action Day.

ASBURY PARK

The Deal Lake Watershed Cleanup will last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Twenty volunteers are needed. Friends of Deal Lake will lead this initiative.

Volunteers will walk along the shoreline in Asbury Park, Interlaken and Loch Arbour collecting debris and trash, while bagging the refuse for collection by each municipality.

Volunteers should bring rakes and small fishing nets if possible. To sign up, click here.

LOCH ARBOUR

The Upper Deal Lake Watershed Cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. One hundred volunteers are needed. The Deal Lake Commission will lead this initiative.

The meet-up location is McGillicuddy’s, at 601 Main St. in Loch Arbour.

“You’ll be helping to clean up Monmouth County’s largest lake, Deal Lake, located within the borders of seven towns,” the event’s description reads. “The best-known section is between Loch Arbour and Asbury Park, but there is so much more. There are 20 great blue herons on the 158 acres of lake, and 4,400 acres of watershed.”

Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, old shoes or boots, and rubber waders if possible.
