Volunteers to construct Mt. Carmel’s First Playground
Alexandra's Playground donatation to be assembled Saturday
A community of volunteers will come together Saturday morning to help construct Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School’s very first playground in its over 90 history.
More than 75 volunteers are expected to join in the construction of the Alexandra’s Playground donated equipment, organizers said. Based in Irvington, New York, Alexandra’s Playground.
“We are very fortunate to be one of three schools in US and two overseas to have a playground put in [this year],” the K-8 school’s Director of Advancement Robert Baroska said during the March announcement.
The First Avenue school’s parking lot will transform into a play space, featuring the slide and climb playground and picnic benches. The 2- to 12-year old age-appropriate equipment is developed by Kompan, a Tacoma, Washington-based global playground company.
Founded in 2009, Alexandra’s Playground’s goal to provide children with safe and active play space is based on studies that show children who engage in active play grow up more physically, emotionally, and cognitively healthy.
“It’s evident what an amazing community they have here,” Alexandra’s Playground Executive Director Lori Hrbek said during the March announcement. “Mt. Carmel will be the recipient of our 20th playground. It will represent more than just a playground being built here, but will represent a playground being built by the community.”
With a kickoff registration time of 8:15 a.m., the playground completion and ribbon cutting ceremony is expected to occur near 2:30 p.m.
