The Sun’s Winter Storm Update
Closures and Cancellations; Motorists advised to stay off roadways
The Feb. 9 snow storm has shuttered schools and government offices, services and meetings in the area.
In Asbury Park, all schools, including Hope Academy Charter, are closed. The Master Plan Community input meeting slated for 6 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Church is cancelled. The meeting will be rescheduled. The next meeting is February 21 at the Asbury Park Senior Center, from 6 pm to 8 p.m. Recycling pickup is cancelled. Alternate side parking rules do not apply in areas that are marked for no parking in snow emergency. Refer to the ‘Alternate Side/No Parking’ Legend HERE [ and in some cases street signs] for parking rules after Friday. Contact Public Works at 732-775-0900 with plowing questions. Staff will be out plowing so you might not receive an immediate call back, officials said.
In Allenhurst, residents are reminded to remove vehicles from roadways so plows can clear snow.
In Deal, the school is closed and garbage and recycling pickup is cancelled. The rescheduled pickup date will be Saturday Feb 11.
In Ocean Township, all schools and municipal offices are closed but the police department is fully staffed, officials said. The non emergency number for general information and questions is 732-531-1800. Police were on the scene of a single car crash [shown in feature photo] along Route 35 south of Deal Road near 8 a.m. Officials are asking motorists to avoid travel if possible.
State offices are closed. Only essential employees are the clock. For current road conditions, visit www.NJ511.org.
Brookdale Community College canceled classes and activities at all locations, and Monmouth County Vocational School District is closed.
