With parade & pyrotechnics, area fêtes the Fourth
Independence Day celebrations begin tonight at 6 in Ocean Twp.'s Palaia Park
While area residents are stocking up on barbecue supplies and dusting off their red, white and blue duds, municipalities are planning a plethora of activities to celebrate Independence Day. Even though the holiday falls on a Wednesday this year, cities and towns in the Asbury area are holding all the usual summertime activities to fête the Fourth, with fireworks going off in various towns tonight, tomorrow and Friday.
ASBURY PARK
Although Asbury won’t have a parade this year, its traditional fireworks spectacular is starting on July 4 at 9 p.m. at Second and Fourth avenues. It should be visible from most of the boardwalk. For a previous story on the display, click here.
BRADLEY BEACH
The borough is holding a fireworks display this Saturday, July 7, at 9:30 p.m. Before the fireworks, attendees can enjoy music at the Fifth Avenue Gazebo starting at about 7 p.m.
OCEAN
Starting at 6 p.m. tonight, July 3, Ocean Township will throw a picnic party for its residents, including a DJ, food and drinks. The event is BYOB and will take place at Joe Palaia Park, on the corner of Whalepond and Deal roads. Fireworks will go off at 9:30 p.m. The high school soccer team will sell ice cream and ice pops while the Ocean Township Ice Hockey will sell drinks. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and more will be available.
OCEAN GROVE
The borough is holding its annual Independence Day PArade at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow — Wednesday, July 4. It will include bands, floats, civic organizations and more, including honoring the Ocean Grove Auditorium Choir as the parade’s Grand Marshals. The parade begins on Whitefield Avenue, turns east along Main Avenue to Central Avenue, and turns north toward Ocean Pathway before heading eastward again and ending along Ocean Avenue.
Ocean Grove will also host an Independence Day concert featuring Dr. Gordon Turk and Michael Stairs with the 10,000-pipe Great Auditorium organ performing Storms & Thunder, Stripes & Pipes at 7:30 p.m.
