WLB Man Swallowed Heroin & Crack Cocaine to Avoid Arrest

Charges include drug possession & distribution, tampering & obstruction

A 42-year-old West Long Branch man was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center Monday after swallowing crack cocaine and heroin in attempt to avoid arrest, Ocean Township Police Department announced via a written news statement.

Wilbert F Ellis was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, obstruction, failure to turn over drugs, wandering with the purpose to distribute drugs, and possession of drugs in a motor vehicle.

Officials said when detectives made contact with the Ellis near 11:52 p.m. along West Park Avenue he ingested the drugs. They also found 80 bags of heroin hidden in his clothes.

Ellis has been remanded to Monmouth County Jail, where he awaits an initial court appearance.
