Woman, 21, Charged After PD Finds Damaged Hydrant, Leveled Light Box & Light Pole, And Road Debris
Schneider: Blood Alcohol Level Was Twice The Legal Limit
Patrol officers arrested a 21 year-old woman following a Monday night investigation into a damaged fire hydrant and roadway debris at the intersection of Spier and Ocean avenues, Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider announced in a written statement.
Kassie Kluin of Eatontown was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to report a crash, leaving the scene of a crash, and failure to produce a valid insurance card.
“Officers quickly checked the surrounding streets, knowing the vehicle could not have traveled far, based on the extent of the damage found,” Schneider said. “The vehicle was located a block away, with extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle.”
Kluin was found inside the vehicle with a 21-year-old passenger along Cedar Avenue; neither were injured. Having failed field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody. Results from a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, Schneider said.
The Allenhurst Fire Department also responded, due to the fluids leaking from the vehicle, he said.
“It was discovered that the water hydrant was snapped off, a Verizon phone box was leveled, a light pole was taken down,” Schneider said. “The vehicle had driven up onto a property alongside Ocean Avenue, before finally driving onto Cedar Avenue, where officers found the car.”
Representatives from the NJ American Water Company, JCP&L, and Verizon responded to address the damages. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Kluin was processed and released into the custody of a responsible and sober adult, pending a future court date.
