Woman accused of ‘pistol-whipping’ Asbury resident, cops say
Verbal dispute preceded alleged assault, robbery
A Willingboro woman was arrested yesterday after allegedly “pistol-whipping” an Asbury Park woman earlier this month, Asbury Park Police Detective Captain Anthony Salerno has said.
Lashawn Mayfield, 39, of Willingboro, engaged in verbal conflicts with a 41-year-old Asbury Park woman over several days earlier this month, Salerno said.
On March 8, the dispute culminated in Mayfield “chasing the victim into her house and assaulting her as well as pistol-whipping her with a handgun,” Salerno said. Theft of money occurred in the Borden Avenue home over the course of the altercation, Salerno said.
The incident took place on March 8, he said, and Mayfield was arrested by officers from the United States Marshals Service and the Asbury Park Police Department yesterday afternoon, March 27, in Willingboro.
Mayfield is being charged with robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and terroristic threats stemming from threats to kill the victim, Salerno said.
She is being held at Monmouth County Correctional Institution, with bail set at $300,000 with no 10-percent option, Salerno said.
