Woman allegedly sets fire to house after trying to burn gifts from ex-boyfriend

A Neptune woman was arrested on May 12 after she attempted to burn items given to her by her ex-boyfriend but ended up setting a building on fire, police have charged.
Maria Isabel Navarro, 21, was arrested just after 7 p.m. that day after allegedly causing the structure fire on Ridge Avenue.
“The fire started to get out of control and we were able to extinguish it,” Police Chief Mark Kinmon said of the allegations. “Our fire department responded … She was attempting to burn some items that were given to her by her ex-boyfriend.”
Navarro was charged with arson and terroristic threats. There were no injuries and minimal damage to the house.
From May 9 through May 14, the Asbury Park Police Department also made the following arrests:
• On May 10, Ty’Quell D. Washington, 23, of Asbury Park, was arrested for contempt of court, possession of a controlled dangerous substance; possession of a controlled dangerous substance — 50 grams or less of marijuana; intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance near school property; intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance near a public place; and manufacturing, distributing or dispensing of controlled dangerous substance in the fourth degree. The arrest was made in the 1500 block of Sewall Avenue.
Washington was arrested on an outstanding Neptune warrant, Kinmon said. After the arrest, “he was found to be in possession of 18 small ziploc bags with what we suspected was marijuana, and he also had two additional clear plastic bags that had suspected cocaine,” the chief said of the allegations leading to the charges.
The arrest was made within the Mt. Carmel Elementary School zone and within 500 feet of public housing property Washington Village.
• On May 9, a 22-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for making terroristic threats. The arrest was made in the 900 block of Asbury Avenue.
• On May 9, a 19-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. The arrest was made in the 600 block of Church Street.
• On May 9, an 18-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The arrest was made in the 1200 block of Asbury Avenue.
• On May 10, a 23-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for contempt of court and resisting arrest. The arrest was made in the 100 block of Atkins Avenue.
• On May 10, a 36-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The arrest was made in the 900 block of Cookman Avenue.
• On May 10, a 27-year-old female from Long Branch was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The arrest was made in the 1600 block of Main Street.
• On May 10, a 25-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for obstruction of justice. The arrest was made in the 100 block of Atkins Avenue.
• On May 10, a 19-year-old female from Asbury Park was arrested for aggravated assault, possession of weapons for unlawful purposes, and disorderly conduct. the arrest was made in the 1000 block of Sunset Avenue.
• On May 11, a 59-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for simple assault. The arrest was made in the 200 block of Sixth Avenue.
• On May 11, a 22-year-old female from Neptune was arrested for defiant trespassing. The arrest was made in the 600 block of Second Avenue.
• On May 11, a 24-year-old female from Farmingdale was arrested for defiant trespassing and hindering apprehension, as well as two counts of contempt of court. The arrest was made in the 600 block of Second Avenue.
• On May 11, a 22-year-old female from Asbury Park was arrested for obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. The arrest was made in the 600 block of Second Avenue.
• On May 11, a 22-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for defiant trespassing. The arrest was made in the 600 block of Second Avenue.
• On May 12, a 23-year-old female from Neptune was charged with violation of a restraining order, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and forgery. The arrest was made in the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue.
• On May 14, a 21-year-old male from Lakewood was arrested for defiant trespassing and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. The arrest was made in the Boston Way apartments.
• On May 14, a 50-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for shoplifting. The arrest was made in the 900 block of Main Street.
• On May 14, a 19-year-old male from Asbury Park was arrested for receiving stolen property. The arrest was made at hte intersection of First Avenue and Main Street.
