Update: Deal Lake Drive Monday a.m. single car crash
force of crash splits telephone pole in two lands car on its side near lake
A Middletown woman, identified as 46-year-old Maria Ortiz, was transported to an area hospital after her vehicle crashed into a telephone pole and then rolled on its side close to Deal Lake, Asbury Park Police Department Spokesman Michael Casey said.
Ortiz, from the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, was traveling [west] along Deal Lake Drive, Fire Department spokesman Garrett Giberson Jr. said. She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for evaluation.
The city’s Fire and Police departments responded near 7:40 a.m. Monday to the 600 block of Deal Lake Drive, officials said.
When units arrived on scene, they observed a white four-door sedan on its side in a grassy area between the roadway and Deal Lake, Casey said. The broken telephone pole lay blocking a portion of the roadway.
The force of the single car crash snapped the telephone pole in two, Police Chief Kevin Keddy said.
The impact then caused the vehicle to flip onto it’s passenger side and come to a rest in the same position, Casey said.
Fire officials extricated the woman before transporting her to the hospital, Keddy said. She sustained a hip injury and complained of a headache.
Although her injuries did not appear to be life threatening, her condition remains unknown at this time, Keddy said.
The accident remains under investigation, Casey said. No summons were issued at this time, pending the completion of the investigation.
