Women’s March Asbury Park Organizers Recognized
City Council proclaims Feb. 8 Women's Day in their Honor
The Women’s March Asbury Park organizers were honored Wednesday night by the City Council, who declared Feb. 8 Women’s Day in their honor.
The four women are Daniele Fiori, Amanda Kane, Dallas Hlatky and Jennifer Lampert [at right].
In reading the proclamation, Deputy Amy Quinn said, their efforts “ensured the sounds of women’s voices were heard throughout the streets of Asbury Park…”
Held in conjunction with sister marches across the nation and the globe, the local march drew an estimated 6,000 people, according to the Asbury Park Police Department.
Quinn said the event recognized that the issues concerning women intersect with issues concerning every group and that the march was a show of solidarity, spreading a message of love, activism, and awareness to issues affecting all women.
“The Asbury Park City Council is thankful of the time energy and hard work of these four women,” Quinn said.
Lambert said they accept the recognition on behalf of everyone involved and the ‘6,000 like minded people’ who attended the event.
“We challenged you to let us do this with five days notice and you handled it in two,” Lampert said. “This I felt was a huge challenge and a huge thing to ask. I am blown away by your support, how fast you did things, and how you constantly checked on us; so we accept this in partnership with you and the 6,000 people that marched. You really had our backs and really we are nothing without you.”
Lampert also thanked Mark McDonald, Russell Lewis and Joe Grillo for immediately lending their support and help with the behind the scenes organization.
“You sought us out and asked what you could do,” she said.
“It’s just a privilege to be connected to this great city,” said Hlatky.
“Honestly just the energy and everything we felt that day was amazing,” Kane said. “We’ve honestly just been encouraged to march on and are so inspired by the people we saw, the photographers that came, and everybody who came out and just wanted to help us.”
“This is what asbury is about,” Fiori said. “This is why I moved to this city. This council and city stood behind us and so I thank you.”
The women are in the midst of planning event that will include an exhibit of the handmade signs created by the marchers.
