The Asbury Park boardwalk needs repairs due to damage sustained during Hurricane Sandy in late October — and one group that uses the boardwalk is donating its own funds to get it back up and running.

The Yoga Festival by the Sea takes place each fall, and yogis from throughout the region come to lay their mats down on the boardwalk and perform 108 consecutive sun salutations.

The annual event attracted about 500 people this September, said organizer Reggie Flimlin. The event raised almost $9,000, most of which went to charity and some operational expenses.

Yoga Festival by the Sea makes a charitable gift at the end of each year, Flimlin said.

“We though, who better to receive it than the Asbury Park boardwalk?” she said. “So we’re giving $1,000 to restoration of the Asbury Park boardwalk because it’s the place we all meet and we’re so appreciative.”

In addition to spearheading Yoga Festival by the Sea each year, Flimlin owns the Basin Bar on Fourth Avenue, where fresh juices and health food are sold.
