The site of the Upstage Club, a non-alcoholic after-hours club where Bruce Springsteen [shown at right performing], Johnny Lyons and others from the early 1970s Asbury music scene played together has been listed for sale.

The three story site had been abandoned for years, although the upper floors where the musicians had once played remaining untouched with the original paint peeling. The original stage also remains on the third floor.

North Jersey antiques dealer Richard Yorkowitz owns the building and is asking $1.85 million, which includes a liquor license. Yorkowitz [shown above with the original day-glo paint on walls inside] has received city approvals for a restaurant and bar on the first two floors, as well as a recording and performance space on the third floor.

The building is located on the corner of Cookman Avenue and Bond Street. The Upstage was operated by Tom and Margaret Potter from 1967 to 1971.

The listing is with realtor Patrick Schiavino of the John C. Conover Agency.
