Zombie Walk gets Special Events Committee nod
Moves to City Council vote Wednesday
The October 3 planned Zombie Walk passed its first hurdle Thursday afternoon when it won the recommendation of the city’s Special Events Committee.
“It was well received,” Mayor John Moor said.
Moor said he could not comment on the application’s specifics until it comes before the City Council for approval next week.
Moor said all interested parties were in attendance, including representatives from Madison Marquette and the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, who will be working with John McGillion to ensure the annual walk goes off without a hitch. City police, fire and department of public works representatives were also in attendance.
On Wednesday, McGillion, owner of the popular eatery and pub Johnny Mac’s revealed that he is in the midst of purchasing the rights to the Asbury Park Zombie walk.
Organizer Jason Meehan will stay on to help with this year’s event, said McGillion, who will work to establish an agreement that includes Meehan’s participation in the year’s to come.
McGillion would not reveal the amount of the sale but said it should be complete by week’s end. McGillion also owns Kim Marie’s on Kingsley Street, as well as several bars in New York City.
The Zombie Walk broke the 2013 Guinness World Record with its 9,592 counted attendees.
The application will most likely come before the City Council for approval during the Sept. 23 Regular Session meeting.
